Microstructure, Mechanical Properties and Tribological Behavior of Magnetron-Sputtered MoS2 Solid Lubricant Coatings Deposited under Industrial Conditions

چکیده

Depositing MoS2 coatings for industrial applications involves rotating the samples during PVD magnetron sputtering process. Here, we show that a 3-fold substrate rotation, along large target–substrate distance given by deposition unit, introduces porosity inside coatings. The mechanical properties and wear behavior strongly correlate with degree of porosity, which, in turn, depends on temperature rotational speed substrate. Ball-on-disk tests nanoindentation experiments consistent change tribological behavior; first, compaction porous structure dominates, followed compacted material. Compaction was main contributor to volume loss running-in Compared dense coating produced without initially showed lower hardness distinct behavior. Tribological lifetime good lubrication performance after compaction.

Tribological behavior of sputter-deposited MoSX/Ni coatings

AbstractSputtered MoS2 coatings have been mostly used as a solid lubricant. In this investigation, MoSx/Ni composite coatings with Ni contents varying from 0 to 22 % were deposited onto steel substrate using a DC magnetron sputter process. The MoS2/Ni ratio in the coatings was controlled by sputtering the composite targets. The composition, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the...

Microstructure, Mechanical and Tribological Properties of Reactive Magnetron Sputtered Titanium Carbide Coatings

This study describes the correlation between the microstructure, mechanical and tribological properties of Ti1-xCx coatings (with x being in the range of 0-1), deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering from a Ti target in Ar/C2H2 mixtures at ~200 °C. The mechanical and tribological properties were found to strongly depend on the chemical composition and the microstructure present. Very dense s...

Solid lubricant behavior of MoS2 and WSe2-based nanocomposite coatings

Tribological coatings made of MoS2 and WSe2 phases and their corresponding combinations with tungsten carbide (WC) were prepared by non-reactive magnetron sputtering of individual targets of similar composition. A comparative tribological analysis of these multiphase coatings was done in both ambient air (30-40% relative humidity, RH) and dry nitrogen (RH<7%) environments using the same tribome...

The tribological properties of Cu-Ni3Al-MoS2 composite coating deposited by magnetron sputtering

In industrial applications, most materials are exposed to wear and friction because multiple conditions are used. However, the tribological properties of these materials can be improved with different techniques. One such technique that improves the frictional property of a surface is the use of self-lubricating coatings. In this study, multicomponent coatings of nominal composition Cu-Ni3Al-Mo...
